Naturally Tanned Sheepskin Rug

Naturally Tanned Sheepskin Rug

£199.00Price

My naturally tanned sheepskins are the most incredibly soft, natural material you can lay your hands upon. The skins are prepared by me in the Cotswolds and then sent to be tanned on the Isle of Skye using mimosa (or tree bark) tannin. It's an innovative and natural process rarely used with sheepskins, creating an incredibly soft, high quality leather in the most environmentally sustainable way possible. My rare breed Portland sheep have a wonderfully thick fleece and when tanned using this natural process, produces a dreamily soft, luxurious sheepskin rug.

  • Care Instructions

    Caring for your sheepskin

By following the simple care instructions below you can be assured that many years on, your fleece will still be looking as good as the day you bought it. To keep the texture of your fleece looking at its best, comb the wool from time to time using either a metal Slicker brush or comb. The fleece is washable, unless stated otherwise, either by machine or by hand. I can recomend both suitable soap and slicker combs.

    By Machine

    • Wash on the wool wash
    • Hang to dry in the shade, do not expose the leather underside to excessive heat in drying.
    • When dry shake vigorously, work the leather underside over a banister or the edge of a table to restore its suppleness, and comb with a metal brush or comb as necessary to restore pile.

    By Hand

    • Wash in hand warm water using pure soap.
    • Rinse thoroughly in clean water.
    • Hang to dry in the shade, do not expose the leather underside to excessive heat in drying.
    • When dry shake vigorously, work the leather underside over a banister or the edge of a table to restore its suppleness, and comb with a metal brush or comb as necessary to restore pile.
